Are you hiding unpleasant-looking cellulite? The first of its kind, Qwo® is an FDA-approved injectable treatment for cellulite in women’s buttocks. A form of an enzyme called collagenase, injected into targeted areas of cellulite, reduces the appearance and leaves the area smoother and more contoured.
As a widespread condition but one that many people find embarrassing and uncomfortable, cellulite has challenged doctors to develop better treatments, such as Qwo®.
Doctors think that the active ingredient in Qwo® works in three ways:
- releasing bands of fiber and tissue under the skin that help hold lumpy cellulite together
- causing fat cells to be redistributed away from problem areas for a more even appearance
- stimulating new collagen to grow in the area of treatment, supporting healthier-looking skin
An essential structural protein, collagen helps keep skin and the underlying structures looking healthy and firm. The enzymes in Qwo®️ act on collagen in the areas of treatment. Treatments to stimulate collagen growth have become very popular, but only this one has been FDA-approved to treat buttock cellulite this way.
As we age, the collagen and skin holding fat cells in place begin to weaken, while fibrous bands under the skin can cause fat to dimple and bulge out as cellulite. By redistributing the fat and breaking down the fibers, the skin can be released and smoothed out.
By stimulating new collagen growth while smoothing the lumps and dimples, Qwo® offers women better-looking buttocks they can feel good about.
Qwo® has been tested and FDA-approved for women with moderate to severe cellulite in their buttocks. Tell your provider about any health problems you have, especially clotting problems.
At this time, the treatment is approved only for women and for use in the buttocks. You have other options if you do not fit these categories but still have concerns about cellulite.
Your provider will select the dimples to target for treatment, then inject the treatment directly into each dimple using a very small needle. You will remain laying down for about five minutes after the injections.
You can receive treatment in two areas during one visit, and three visits, spaced three weeks apart, will yield the best results.
Some people report a stinging or burning feeling during the injections. Most people tolerate the treatment well and find the discomfort minor. Treatment usually takes under half an hour to complete.
After the injections, you may experience some soreness and swelling in the injection area. You may also see some bruising, which should resolve after a week or two.
Most people can resume normal activities the day of their treatment.
You can expect visible results within about ten weeks. The entire course of treatment consists of three shots given 21 days apart.
Results include smoother buttocks, reduction of cellulite, and a more contoured buttock area. Maximum results will be visible a few weeks following the final treatment.
