Germain Giving Tree for Toys for Tots Charleston

We can’t believe the Christmas season is almost here! 2018 surely did fly by.

This year, we will have a Germain Giving Tree – what’s that, you ask?

Bring a new, unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots to our Mount Pleasant office – and you will get to pick an ornament — inside are discounts!

* Only one ornament (discount)  per patient donation

Toys for Tots is close to Dr. Germain’s heart not only because it brings smiles to thousands of children in the Charleston, it’s also organized by the US Marine Corp – as a veteran, Dr. Germain salutes her fellow armed services for putting together such a heartwarming event annually.

We will be accepting toys until December 7.

Let us know if you have any questions! Thank you!

Skin Complete NOW AVAILABLE – Germain Dermatology

We are excited to add Jane Iredale’s Skin Complete to our inventory at Germain Dermatology.

Skin Complete is the first step in any good skincare regimen. Suitable for all skin types, this duo pack is a combination of two premium supplements that promote healthy skin: Skin Vitamin A and Skin Antioxidant.

SKIN ANTIOXIDANT- A skincare supplement suggested for all skin types. Skin Antioxidant is formulated with seven super antioxidant phytonutrients found in plants. The skin is bombarded with damaging free radicals day and night; everything from airborne toxins to any source of light, including your computer screen. Antioxidants help to protect and repair the skin, which keeps it looking younger for longer. The phytonutrients in Skin Antioxidant are especially effective since they are enhanced with beta-carotene, a form of vitamin A. One capsule daily with food is recommended.

SKIN VITAMIN A – A skincare supplement suggested for all skin types. Skin Vitamin A contains vitamin A enriched with vitamin D. Vitamin A is important to cell production and growth. It also stimulates the cells responsible for the skin’s firm and healthy tissue and so is known as the anti-aging vitamin. Vitamin D optimizes the skin’s immune system and helps to destroy free radicals that can cause premature aging. By supplementing with Skin Vitamin A, you will help nourish your skin from the inside. Each capsule contains optimum levels in an easily absorbable form. One capsule a day with food is recommended.

Try this duo together or purchase separately now available for purchase in our Mt. Pleasant office.

Putting Your Best Face Forward

What do we all want from our makeup? The perfect shade, perfect coverage, lots of good stuff for our skin, sun protection, etc; and to top it all off we want it to look like it’s not even there!  How does one find this magical product? Let us tell you.
– Test foundations on your CHEEK, not the inside of your wrist. The inside of your wrist hardly, if ever, is exposed to sunlight making it shades or more lighter than your face.
– Test foundations in various lighting. Makeup in sunlight can look completely different in a bathroom or under fluorescent lights, and vice versa.
– Determine your type and coverage and eliminate those that don’t cater to your needs. If you are shiny stick to matte formulas that are oil-free or a powder formula, if you are worried about fine lines and wrinkles opt for an anti-aging formula with a bit more coverage, but not heaviness as heavier makeup with settle into lines.
While there are thousands of brands and types we love to rave about Jane Iredale’s cosmetic line.  All of her mineral powders are a foundation, powder, concealer and sunscreen all in one; every product in the line is multi-functional and good for your skin! Take a peek at her choices for your flawless skin.

Looking for some ways to up your make-up game? See some celebrity tips below, it’s easier than you think.
Applying Primer:
Primer fills in fine lines and smoothes pores, it also keeps your makeup looking fresh all day. Consider it the key to making your skin makeup-ready.
  • Apply Moisturizer First.
  • Remember that a little goes a long way.
  • Avoid the eye area (you want to use concealer and highlighting here).
  • Let primer set for a few minutes before applying foundation.

The Perfect Eyeliner:
Pencil, gel or liquid; winged, smudged or clean – the options are plentiful.
When using a pencil
  •  Make sure it is always sharpened to a point.
  •  Line as close to your lash line as you can (most suggest lining your ‘waterline’).
  •  Warm tip of pencil in your fingers for smoother application.
  •  Apply in short strokes.

When using cream or gel
  • Always choose a long wear formula.
  • Set the line by pressing eye shadow on top.
  • Use and angled brush for creative cat lines and more.
  • Use a precision brush for ultra thin lines.

When using Liquid
  • Great for hooded eyelids or oily skin.
  • Clean up mistakes with pointed q-tips.
  • Use a thin applicator for easiest use.

*Extra Tip: want to widen your eyes? Skip the black liner and go for a color. Black, like in clothing, narrows your shape.
Not so False Lashes
Not everyone has time to apply false lashes before stepping out the door, nor does everyone have the money for eyelash extensions, so here are some ways to create unbelievable lashes without the hassle or the money.
  • Use an eyelash curler. Heat your curler for a few seconds with a blow dryer. Then apply curler to the base of your lash line and hold tightly while rotating your hand upwards- pinch again.
  • Apply a THIN layer of powder to the base of your lashes using a small blending brush. This will create a full base for your mascara.
  • Apply two coats of mascara to both the top and bottom of your lashes (not your lower lashes). Wait a few minutes then apply another coat.
  • Make any touchups with the brush tip or liquid eyeliner for gaps.

The Art of Lipstick
Whether you wear it all the time, or just use it to glam up a night on the town there is a definite RIGHT way to apply lip color.
  • Exfoliate your lips with a soft toothbrush (baby brushes are great).
  • Apply a lip cream or concealer to fill in ridges (Chapstick will make the color wear off much quicker).
  • Apply a THIN layer of your foundation over entire lip area- yes you read that right. This acts as a blender for color and a primer.
  • Always use a lip liner. Choose a neutral shade or a shade that matches your lipstick.
  • Use a Lipbrush to paint your color on, inside the lines.

Stairway to Smooth & ‘Sun’ Kissed

We’ve given you tips and tricks to avoid the sun, protect yourself from the sun and even how to care for your skin if you get too much sun… But do you know how to fake the sun? We can help! Get perfectly sun kissed, smooth, skin without the side effects!
Laser hair removal should be done in months where you don’t expose your skin to harmful UV Rays, and indoor tanning/outdoor tanning is a BIG NO-NO. Here is the professional lowdown on that perfectly sunless tan and baby smooth skin.
1- Exfoliate. Use a washcloth to exfoliate the skin prior to applying a self-tanner. Using an exfoliating product also will help remove dead skin cells. Spend a little more time exfoliating where your skin is thickest — elbows, knees and ankles.
2- Shave. Do this at LEAST an hour before you apply, 24 hours before if you have sensitive skin. Before you shave, wet your skin and hair to soften it. Taking a shower or bath is a great way to soften your hair. Next, apply a shaving cream or gel.
Be sure to shave in the direction that the hair grows.
*Change blades or throw away disposable razors after 5 to 7 shaves to help minimize irritation.

3- Dry your skin. Drying your skin before you apply a self-tanner helps it go on evenly.
4- Apply in sections. Apply the self-tanner in sections (such as the arms, then legs, followed by the torso). Massage the self-tanner into your skin in a circular motion.
Wash your hands after each section. You will avoid orange-colored palms by washing your hands with soap and water after you finish applying the self-tanner to each section of your body.
Tips for the best applications:

*Blend at your wrists and ankles. For a natural look, you need to lightly extend the tanner from your wrists to your hands and from your ankles to your feet.
*Dilute over your joints. Dilute the self-tanner on the knees, ankles and elbows, because these areas tend to absorb more self-tanner than the rest of the skin. To dilute, lightly rub with a damp towel or apply a thin layer of lotion on top of the self-tanner.

5- Give your skin time to dry. Wait at least 10 minutes before getting dressed. For the next three hours, it is best to wear loose clothing and try to avoid sweating.
