ULTHERAPY® – WE JUST CAN’T STOP TALKING ABOUT IT!

ULTHERAPYGermain Dermatology| Mt Pleasant, South Carolina

We are seeing some amazing results with Ultherapy®!  If you are thinking about a little lifting or some refreshing, you may definitely want to consider Ultherapy®.

Ultherapy® is a non-invasive treatment using therapeutic ultrasound technology to safely lift and tone skin without any downtime. Approved by the FDA for the neck, face and area, targeted sound waves pass directly below the surface of the skin to “heat” the deep support layers to tighten and firm loose or sagging areas which have lost their elasticity and firmness over time.  By renewing and reconditioning the skin from within, whether necks tightened, jowls and brows lifted, eyes widened, Ultherapy® gives a more refreshed look overall.

Ultherapy® stimulates your body to produce COLLAGEN.  It is the combination of tissue contraction during treatment that encourages the production and building of new collagen to counter the effects of gravity and time, resulting in a significant lifting of the skin.  The formation of new collagen occurs during the 60-90 days following treatment, as tired collagen is replaced with new elastic collagen. While the results do not duplicate surgery, the visible improvements make Ultherapy® a compelling option for those who want some lifting but do not want or are not ready to undergo an extensive procedure.  It is also a great option to remedy early changes as well as for maintenance after a surgical procedure.

A viewing screen of the ultrasound image allows Dr. Germain to see precisely what energy level is being delivered to the targeted area for a focused, custom approach.  The area is assessed with ultrasound imaging before the system is activated and energy applied.  Each treatment last 30-60 minutes, depending which area or areas will be treated.

Without disruption to the skin, some visible improvements may be noticed immediately however, complete results from lifting and toning present within 2-3 months.  Results last 1-2 years.  Touch up treatments can help keep pace with the aging process, which varies by the individual. Most patients only need one treatment; however some may benefit from multiple treatments depending upon how much laxity they have and their body’s own biological response to the ultrasound and collagen-building process.

Ultherapy® is different from lasers in that it address the deep layers which lend support to the skin and stimulates the production of collagen.  Lasers typically address the superficial layers of the skin.  Depending upon what outcome is desired, Ultherapy® and a laser treatment may be quite complementary. Ultherapy® may also be used in conjunction with Botox® or other fillers.

A Few Things to Note:

  • No downtime.  This non-invasive procedure allows you to return to your normal activities right away.  Anesthesia is not necessary.
  • Some tingling and usually non-painful sensations will be felt during the process, which is the focused ultrasound energy being delivered below the surface of the skin.  Sensations vary by patient, are temporary and are an indication the collagen-building process has been initiated.
  • Some patients do experience mild and temporary redness, swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch following treatment however, these results are temporary and usually resolved an hour or so after treatment.
  • Ultherapy® best addresses mild to moderate loose or sagging skin.
